So naturally, we wanted to find out more about this intriguing accommodation business, which can be found in the heart of the “happiest place in the UK”, Skipton.

So we got in touch with Mark and Kay Webb, the couple behind the venture, to find out a little more!

What is The Bailey?

The Bailey is a very cosy dog-friendly cottage for 2 people (one Kingsize bed with beautiful Egyptian cotton bedding) plus a Shepherd’s Hut for 2 people. Both have a wood burner.

We are next to the castle in the middle of Skipton, officially the happiest place in the UK and gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. There are wonderful walks in Skipton woods or on the fells. Bolton Abbey is 10 minutes away and Skipton is full of great dog-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes.

You can hire a day boat on the Leeds / Liverpool canal, road or mountain bikes from us or even book a chauffeur driven tour of the Yorkshire Dales in a classic car.

We have a beautiful, large enclosed garden, full Sky package including Sports and Movies (in the cottage) and very fast, hardwired BT WiFi in both. We have just completed a full renovation of the cottage including a new kitchen and bathroom. The cottage and the hut each has parking for one car.

Also, in low season we can take bookings for the cottage direct rather than through Yorkshire Cottages which can work out cheaper.

Who’s behind the venture?

We bought the property in June 2017 and have undergone a full programme of renovations. In addition to the cottage and the hut, we plan to open 2 boutique B and B rooms later this year.

What is the inspiration behind The Bailey?

Isn’t it everyone’s dream to quit the rat race and do this?!

When can we expect you to open?

The cottage and hut are up and running and the B and B rooms will probably be ready at the end of the year.

Why should people pay you a visit?

We are unique accommodation in the town! We are very centrally located but have a wonderfully secluded feel. Anyone would be welcome to pop by and have a look round, even if they are just curious about the arrival of the big blue hut! We would love them to then recommend us to friends.
