Would you rather live in a city or a small town?

When you’re considering a move, it’s common to weigh up whether to live in a city or a small town. Depending on your job, family and lifestyle there are benefits to either choice. Naturally, then, it can be an incredibly difficult decision. Below, we explore the benefits of both and how you can decide.

Benefits of a small town

For a start, living in a small town will likely be accompanied by a lower cost of living. Rent and house prices are usually less expensive in more rural areas due to lower demand. This can allow you to enjoy better housing that you wouldn’t normally be able to afford in a city. Plus, you might even be able to afford a garden too!

What’s more, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of a close-knit community and a lower crime rate. Generally, small towns have a greater sense of community as there are fewer inhabitants. This usually leads to a safer lifestyle too.

Finally, you’ll also be able to enjoy a slower lifestyle. Indeed, there are plenty of benefits to living in a quieter place: there’ll be less traffic, better air quality and these perks will likely boost your mental health too!

Benefits of a city

When a removal company finishes transferring your possessions into your new home, you’ll be all set to enjoy the many benefits that city life brings. For a start, there are usually more job opportunities in the city: more companies are based in urban settings, and you should find it easier to gain employment.

Cities also tend to be more exciting than small towns. Once you’ve lived in a small dwelling for a few years, you might find that you’ve done everything. However, cities take a long time to explore fully – and there are usually new activities, bars and shops opening all the time.

Living in the city is usually more practical too. Public transport networks will be more comprehensive, and you should find that your commute and general travel are much easier to sort out.

How to decide

To decide, you’ll need to consider some questions about yourself. If you like a fast-paced, sociable lifestyle then a city will be a better choice for you. At the same time, you should consider your budget and family situation. If you have a young family and you’re operating on a tight budget, a small town might be a better choice for raising your children.

Choosing between living in a city or a small town can be difficult. But by following the guide above, you should be set to make the right choice for yourself.
