Perhaps the most vibrant month of the year will soon be upon us. With that in mind, we thought it would be helpful to put together a handy roundup of some of the best events that’re coming up in the Shipley/Saltaire area this December.
A great time for family, merry making and high jinks, the last month of the year promises to keep all entertained with a series of wonderful events being held by equally wonderful organisers. If you were worried you might not have much to do as the nights draw in – never fear, there’s plenty going on.
Santa Specials at Shipley Glen Cable Tramway
Santa’s coming to Shipley Glen Cable Tramway. Taking place each weekend in the run up to Christmas, it’s is sure to excite youngsters who can take a ride on the tram and meet Santa and his elves in the grotto.
Price & Times
Taking place from 12noon until 4.30pm on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st as well as Sunday 8th, 15th and 22nd. It costs £6 per child who wants to see Santa. To ride the tram it’ll cost Adults £2.50 for a day rover or £1.50 for a single journey. A single childrens journey is 50p and a day rover will cost just £1.
Saltaire Brewery Christmas Beer Club
One for the adults, the monthly Beer club at Saltaire Brewery is prepping for its Christmas celebration, taking place on 20th December. The mini beer festival will host festive music, plenty of locally brewed beer and some delicious food to boot. As well as their exceptionally popular hog roast, there will also be a guest food stall. If you’re a fan of beer and haven’t been to a Beer Club event yet, this is a great opportunity to try it out.
Prices & Timings
Entry costs £5 and after admission you can expect to pay £2 a pint for all cask ales. Other drinks vary in price. The event starts at 4.30pm and last orders go on until 10pm.
The Shipley Alternative
At the forefront of the campaign to make Shipley the new home of the alternative in the region is the ever popular Shipley Alternative Indy Market. Found in the Kirkgate Centre in Shipley, there’s plenty to head down for, ranging from unique hand crafted items to intriguing wares you won’t find anywhere else. A smashing date to put in the diary if you’re on the hunt for truly unique Christmas gifts.

Head down to the Kirkgate Centre on 7th December from 9am til 1pm to check out what’s on offer. Entry is free.
The Wedding Present at Salt Beer Factory
Since opening its doors not long ago, Salt Beer Factory has made a name for itself as one of Saltaire’s best music venues. In December, popular group The Wedding Present will take to the stage and perform a set filled with many of their 18 top 40 singles.
Prices and Timings
Doors open at 7pm on Thursday 12th December, tickets cost £20.
Saltaire Christmas Lights Switch On
On the 1st of December, crowds will gather outside Victoria Hall to celebrate the Christmas lights being switched on, lighting up Saltaire and marking the start of another festive season for the village. This year, there will be carol singing and music which are sure to get you in the festive mood. A variety of stalls will be showcasing the best of our local community groups and there will be plenty to get involved with and enjoy.
Prices and Timings
The event is free. Community stalls and refreshments will be open from 4pm and the main event will take place from 6 – 6.15pm.
