More than 50 over 55’s attended a surprise ‘Flash Mob’ at The Broadway, Bradford today.

Presented and organised by Yorkshire Dance’s ‘Dance On’ programme for over 55s, the Flash Mob performance was in celebration of International Women’s Day. Two performances took place to Saygrace’s You Don’t Own Me and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way and whilst the activity took shoppers by surprise, many joined in the dancing in good spirits.

Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway, Bradford said: “This is the third year we’ve hosted the surprise Flash Mob and it has had the best turn out yet. We’re absolutely delighted to be supporting both Yorkshire Dance and the members of ‘Dance On’, plus this year was extra special due to the performance being in aid of International Women’s Day.”

The boundary breaking  ‘Dance On’ programme for older people challenges perceptions around dance and age across  Bradford and Leeds, mostly targeting women from low socioeconomic areas. It is a warm and  welcoming space for participants over 55 to express themselves through dance, exercise and meet new friends.

Laura Liddon  at Yorkshire Dance, said: “‘Dance On’ participants from across Bradford and Leeds have been rehearsing a short routine in their weekly classes and I’m delighted it was such a success. The hard work and commitment of the dancers is truly admirable and so much fun was had in the build up and during the performance. We can’t wait to hold our next surprise performance and hope many more members of the public will come and support us – and even join in!”
