A COUPLE were trapped within a first-floor flat early on 1st December, Sunday morning in a suspected arson attack.
Firefighters attended the property which is on Mornington Street in Keighley and were forced to break in to rescue the occupants.
The couple who’re aged between 45 and 50 were taken to hospital following the incident and are being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
The incident took place at around 2am, when fire crews from Keighley, Bingley and Silsden were called out to the property. The fire started at in the entrance area of the flat and fire fighters used four breathing apparatus sets along with two hose reels to tackle the blake. As well as this, a specialist high-pressure fan was used to clear smoke from the premises.
Fire crews responded quickly and the blaze was brought under control within roughly 10 minutes, howver damage to the property was extensive.

“The flat was well alight when we arrived at the scene.
“We had to break the door down to gain entry and helped the occupants out.
“There was a lot of damage to that flat and the one below, which was unoccupied.”
Police are now investigating the incident which is being treated as suspicious.
