The Broadway hails Thackley’s unsung hero

20 year old, former Immanuel College pupil Caitlin Brimacomb from Thackley has been crowned as The Broadway’s second ‘Local Hero’.

Nominated by her mum, Bianca Brimacomb, Caitlin has been awarded for her tireless fundraising efforts in her local community plus events for Macmillan and a skydive for charity, Mind.

In December 2020, Caitlin felt humbled to be able to continue to work as an apprentice accountant at Morrisons and made an offer via Facebook to buy Christmas dinner for a local family.

Caitlin commented: “I wanted to help a family that might benefit from some support during a challenging year. I hoped to spread some festival spirit and alleviate some stress as 2020 came to an end.

“I was stunned when my post was shared and people got in touch to contribute more funds that allowed to extend the offer to more local families.

“I’m thrilled to have won The Broadway’s Local Hero award. I really enjoy fundraising, particularly for charities close to my heart. I completed a skydive in Bridlington in September last year with my best friend Lauren and raised funds for Mind. I also hold annual garden events for Maccmilian with cakes, a bbq and a tombola.”

The Broadway, Bradford has been running a campaign since early 2021 to celebrate the region’s unsung heroes with a winner each month awarded with a £250 shopping voucher.

Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway, said:

“Caitlin is an outstanding member of the Bradford community. Her selflessness and commitment to helping others is inspiring to others, particularly younger people.

“Young people have faced so many challenges during the pandemic and many have unsung stories of resilience and dedication. I’m delighted to award a young hero in Bradford, Caitlin is a deserving winner.”

People can nominate their local hero via an online submission form

The winner will be announced at the end of each month.
