Thorpe Farm Rehabilitation and Fitness celebrates success after expansion and investment

A local equestrian business is going from strength to strength thanks to investment in its facilities over the past 12 months. Thorpe Farm Rehabilitation and Fitness is a professional yard based near Great Smeaton in North Yorkshire which is owned by husband-and-wife duo Amy and Tommy Fife, who have both worked in professional horse stables for many years. Tommy is the son of local racehorse trainer Majorie Fife, from whom he learnt everything about caring for horses, and Amy is a keen competitive rider with decades of experience.

Thorpe Farm offers services aimed at getting horses fit for competitions and races, and aiding their recovery from injury or illness, as well as regular and holiday livery (that’s the day-to-day care of horses). The farm’s clientele includes horse owners, professional riders and racehorse trainers based in the local area, and others who travel from as far away as Scotland, Cumbria and South Yorkshire.

From a high-tech water treadmill, which helps improve cardiovascular fitness while reducing impact on the hoof and leg joints, to a salt therapy chamber and an innovative TheraPlate wave vortex machine, the equine rehabilitation tools are top of the range. Horses can visit Thorpe Farm for a one-off session, for a series of treatments, or stay for weeks or months for rehabilitation livery. Owners can also book their horse in for a 5-star experience when they jet off on a much-needed break with Thorpe Farm’s in-demand holiday livery packages. Their horse will be perfectly taken care of while the owner sips cocktails in the sun or explores far-flung cities.

Thorpe Farm also hires out its 5-furlong (just over half a mile) gallop track which has been finished with an industry leading Andrews Bowen Canter Mix surface. The result is a stable, shock-absorbing surface for horses to carry out fast work and build up fitness in a controlled environment. It’s not just racehorses who enjoy the Thorpe Farm gallops – the business welcomes plenty of leisure riders to blow away the cobwebs on their track! A new cross-country field has recently been constructed and is perfect for riders hoping to get some jumping practice or just to have some fun!

Amy comments: “We have invested in the weather treadmill, salt chamber setup, TheraPlate machine, the gallops and so much more since launching the business, and it’s fantastic to see our customer base and profile growing. We’re getting new enquiries every day and are thinking about expanding the number of stables on site and adding more equipment too. We hope our business is an asset to the local equestrian community here in North Yorkshire”
