An operation by the Dewsbury and Midfield Proactive team and partners resulted in a number of illegal taxi drivers being caught.
The high visibility operation saw 75 vehicles stopped, one taxi suspended from driving and one person arrested. Cars travelling from the Park Road junction to Ravensthorpe on Huddersfield Road were stopped by officers, DVSA and Kirklees Council taxi licensing as art of the operation.
The license of one car was immediately suspended and ten rectification notices were given to taxis with vehicle defects. The operation also saw three drivers being given tickets for not wearing a seat belt and the arrest of a 25 year old woman wanted on warrant.
PC Asad Kahut said:
“The aim of this operation was to target what we call the ‘Fatal 4,’ namely the four factors that contribute to a road traffic collision or serious injury. These are speeding, drink drive, mobile phone use and driving without a seat belt.
“It was a successful operation offering a high visibility presence in Ravensthorpe and I want to thank our partners for their support in helping us carry out this operation and get a message out there to communities that we are taking action.”
