A young culinary talent from Bedale Primary School is poised to make her mark on supermarket shelves with a unique sausage recipe that has captivated the judges at HECK! Food.
Eight-year-old Lola Fenn has emerged victorious in a local competition launched by the renowned Bedale banger and burger firm, HECK!, aimed at discovering their next great sausage flavour. The initiative, spearheaded by HECK!’s Mel Drummond, invited pupils from the school to channel their creativity and develop a new, healthier sausage recipe.
Lola’s winning creation, a Lemon & Honey Chicken Sausage, impressed HECK!’s co-founders Jamie, Andrew, and Debbie Keeble, along with their ‘sausage scientist’ Calum Smith. The clever combination of zesty lemon and sweet honey with lean chicken perfectly aligns with HECK!’s reputation for producing healthier, gluten-free options that appeal to slimmers, gym-goers, and health-conscious eaters.
“It was really good fun coming up with ideas,” Lola said. “I came up with a few different flavour combinations but decided to go with the lemon and honey. It’s exciting to think my sausages will be sold on the website and I think the pack looks really great too. I hope everyone enjoys them.”

The winning recipe is set to be produced at HECK! HQ, and a special pack design featuring Lola’s name has been created. The limited-edition sausages will be available on HECK!’s website starting from 26th July for a two-week period. Additionally, HECK! is in discussions with major supermarkets to potentially roll out Lola’s creation nationwide.

Jamie Keeble of HECK! commented: “We’re passionate about getting young people interested in food and farming, and this competition has really ignited the imaginations of budding young sausage makers. We loved Lola’s lemon and honey combination; it’s a sweet and subtle flavour that’s perfect for summer, and we’re excited for it to launch later this month.”
The initiative has not only given young students a platform to showcase their culinary creativity but also fostered a deeper interest in food production and healthy eating. In recognition of their efforts, HECK! plans to treat Lola and her fellow pupils to a bespoke lunch featuring the special flavour when they return to school after the summer holidays.
With this innovative project, HECK! has demonstrated its commitment to community engagement and nurturing the next generation of food enthusiasts. The Bedale Primary School community eagerly anticipates the arrival of Lola’s Lemon & Honey Chicken Sausages on store shelves, celebrating a young girl’s imaginative leap from the classroom to the culinary world.
