The Wensleydale Creamery has unveiled its new ‘Cheesy Afternoon Tea for Two’, now a permanent feature on the menu at Calvert’s Restaurant in its Visitor Centre in Hawes, Yorkshire Dales. Following a successful trial over the summer, the cheesy take on the classic British afternoon tea is back, offering visitors a unique culinary experience alongside stunning panoramic views of the rolling Dales.
The menu celebrates the Creamery’s award-winning handcrafted cheeses and local Yorkshire produce, starting with savoury favourites like Three Cheese Quiche, indulgent Wensleydale Mac n Cheese, and the ‘Ultimate Wensleydale Creamery Rarebit’. The rarebit, made with a blend of Yorkshire Wensleydale, Double Yorkshire, and Yorkshire Cheddar with Black Sheep Ale, is served with a fresh salad, chunky chips, and Raydale Preserves Tomato & Chilli Chutney.
For dessert, the afternoon tea continues the cheese theme with Calvert’s signature Yorkshire Wensleydale & Ginger Cheesecake, and a true Yorkshire delicacy—rich fruitcake from Cockett’s Bakery in Hawes paired with a slice of creamy, crumbly Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese. Guests can enjoy the full experience with a pot of Yorkshire Tea, all for just £17 per person.
Originally introduced as a two-week special, the popularity of the Cheesy Afternoon Tea has cemented its place as a permanent option at the restaurant. Trish Cannon, Visitor Centre Director at Wensleydale Creamery, said:
“We’re delighted to announce the launch of our Cheesy Afternoon Tea. After listening to the fantastic response from our visitors, we knew we had to make it a permanent offering, and we can’t wait to welcome more guests to enjoy our cheesy version of the classic afternoon tea!”
A visit to the Creamery can also include exploring its flagship Cheese Visitor Experience. Guests can learn about the Dales’ 1,000-year cheesemaking heritage, enjoy live cheesemaking demonstrations, and discover perfect pairings in the ‘Taste of Yorkshire Tasting Room’. The experience also provides a chance to watch the Creamery’s skilled cheesemakers at work, adding a deeper appreciation for the iconic Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.
