York Gin is raising a glass to its latest success after winning a national gold medal for its alcohol-free spirit, York Zero.
The award was announced at this year’s Free From Food Awards ceremony in London, where York Zero took the top spot in the No and Low Alcohol category, sponsored by Low No Drinker magazine.
The spirit, created in collaboration with Wetherby-based alcohol-free specialists Bax Botanics, is distilled with juniper, herbs, fruit and spices. It’s designed to offer the depth and character of gin, without the alcohol.
“We’re delighted with this win for York Zero,” said York Gin Director Natalie Hall. “Our alcohol-free gin is a firm favourite with lots of customers who want a booze-free but grown-up drink. Juniper is definitely at the forefront of the flavour profile – so it’s a great alternative for gin drinkers.”

York Gin’s alcohol-free option is already making its mark locally, too.
“It’s on several cocktail menus in York, including The Star Inn The City who make some delicious alcohol-free cocktails with it,” said Natalie. “We’re delighted for our collaborators Bax Botanics down the road in Wetherby who are truly inspired alcohol-free distillers. It’s a real Yorkshire success story.”
York Zero is available from the York Gin shop and online, priced at £23 for a 70cl bottle.
The Free From Food Awards are the UK’s only awards dedicated to food and drink free from one or more of the top 14 major allergens. Launched in 2008, they are recognised for celebrating the best in the growing free-from category. Products are judged by panels of chefs, nutritionists, food developers and people with allergies, with all entries blind tasted.
The win marks another step forward for York Gin as it continues to expand its range of drinks to suit more customers, without compromising on flavour or quality.
