LEEDS dog lovers and their four legged friends are invited to a charity fun day to raise money for pets living with the homeless.
The Doghouse Bar on Kirkgate is hosting a fundraising event on March 23rd for Street Paws, a charity offering vet support to people sleeping on the street.
Visitors can sample a special 4% West Coast Pale – Street Paws Pale ale that has been created to support the charity by Stod Fold Brewing Company of Halifax.
For the dogs, there will be treats and sweets, Pawsecco and an adoring audience of dog lovers to satisfy all the attention they need.
Local artist Audrey Langevin will be available for caricatoons of the dogs, or maybe a family portrait and allow owners in as well. Audrey will donate £5.00 to Street Paws for each drawing.
Street Paws provide relief from animal suffering by giving free veterinary care and emergency kennel space for the homeless and those in crisis across 21 locations in the UK including Leeds.
Volunteer vets and nurses who run the Leeds outreach sessions each month will be there to celebrate and will have a range of supporters merchandise available for purchase.
Michelle Southern, founder of Street Paws, said: “We’re really thankful to the Doghouse for hosting this event to support our work and to Stod Fold for making our own beer.
“People can look forward to great food and music and the chance to try the Street Paws ale, which we’re so excited about, and we hope to raise vital funds to support our work in Leeds.
“It will be a day for dogs and their owners to enjoy, where they can learn about our work and raise money for pets who need support.”
Stu from the Doghouse said they wanted to host the event to highlight the issues facing homeless people in the city.
Stu said: “There’s no disguising that homelessness in the city has risen in recent years and when a friend recently introduced me to Street Paws it struck me immediately that there was a great opportunity to help raise awareness of Leeds homeless people and the animals that form such a huge part of their lives.”
“At the Bar, and with Street Paws we share the love of dogs and it seemed such an obvious place to bring people together with shared values, for us having some fun and raising funds to enable the charity to continue its valuable work supporting our wonderful city, Leeds.”
Street Paws have operated a mobile outreach in Leeds since December 2017 and provide veterinary care for 25 animals in the city centre.
Animals visiting the outreach sessions can have vaccinations, preventative treatments and microchips and, if owners need to go into hospital, the charity arranged emergency kennel space.
Michelle added: “We are delighted to have the support of the team at The Doghouse and we look forward to many fundraising events across the coming year.”
The event is open from 11am and will run until 5pm. Check out Street Paws and Doghouse Bar Leeds Facebook pages for further details.
