Wensleydale Railway’s much-loved Model Railway Show returns to Leeming Bar Station on the weekend of 10–11 May, offering a packed schedule for railway fans of all ages.
The annual event features a wide range of model layouts, from N to O gauge, alongside trade stands and live model-making demonstrations. Hot and cold drinks, snacks, and even draft and bottled beer will be available from the buffet coach and station cafes at Bedale and Leyburn.
This year’s show will also see all passenger services operated by heritage diesel locomotives, including Class 37 (37250), Class 14s (D9513 and D9523), and Class 03 (03144). Services will run between Scruton and Leyburn throughout the weekend.
A highlight for enthusiasts will be the public debut of the newly repainted Class 47 (47714), which will be on static display at Leeming Bar. Visitors can meet the volunteer Diesel Team who worked on the locomotive and hear more about the restoration.
Entry to the model railway show is £6 for adults, with free entry for children aged 3 to 15. Tickets can be purchased online or on the day. Train travel is ticketed separately, with options including single, return, or a full-day rover ticket for £25. Children ride for just £1 as part of the railway’s ‘kids-for-a-quid’ offer.
Visitors can also explore the award-winning station museums at Leeming Bar and Scruton, with free guided tours led by costumed interpreters sharing stories of rural railway life in the early 1900s.
Nick Keegan, Marketing and Fundraising Manager, said: “This is the fourth year we’ve hosted our model railway show at Leeming Bar. We’ll have 10 layouts on display and a great selection of trade stands and demos. Bring the family for a day of big and small train fun at our volunteer-led heritage railway!”
The event runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
