Bradford City AFC has been crowned champion of the third annual Bradford College Apprenticeship Games, an action-packed event marking National Apprenticeship Week (10th – 16th February).
In partnership with CBRE, the event brought together apprentices and their employers for a day of themed challenges, celebrating the significant impact of apprenticeships on individuals, businesses, and the wider economy. Teams from JCT600, Bradford City AFC, Bradford Bulls, Northern Pump Supplies, Aptem, RMA Systems, and CBRE competed for the coveted title.
CBRE’s Contract Manager Jay McQuitty highlighted the importance of apprenticeships, stating: “CBRE has a positive, long-standing relationship with Bradford College. We were really interested in collaborating with the college through this type of exciting event. Apprenticeships are a huge part of our industry and something we really value at CBRE, with apprentices contributing significantly to the foundations of our organisation. Our competing team have had a great time and we’re looking forward to working together again in the future.”

The day kicked off with a complimentary breakfast at The Grove Restaurant before participants tackled various challenges across the David Hockney Building and the newly refurbished Higher Level STEM facility, Garden Mills. Inspired by key apprenticeship sectors, the morning saw competitors take on tasks such as conceptual TikTok advertising for the College’s new Digital Apprenticeship and a darts challenge hosted by CBRE.

After lunch, the competition intensified at Trinity Green Campus with a series of hands-on challenges, including a Bradford City football challenge, Bradford Bulls wheelchair rugby challenge, and a motor vehicle task involving changing a car tyre and carefully lowering it onto plastic cups for bonus points.
Bradford City AFC emerged victorious following the final points tally, with JCT600 securing second place and CBRE taking third.
Following their second win in three years, Bradford City AFC’s Commercial Executive Mick Russell commented: “As close partners of Bradford College, we work together throughout the year and are fellow strong advocates for apprenticeships. Being here today to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, alongside other local employers, has been really exciting. There’s been several challenging contests against some strong teams, so to emerge as winners is a fulfilling achievement for us.”
This year marks the 18th National Apprenticeship Week, an initiative that has been celebrating the success of apprenticeships since 2007. Bradford College, with over 30 years of experience in delivering apprenticeships, collaborates with around 700 employers across Bradford and the wider Leeds City Region.
