Bradford Interchange Bus Station to Reopen in January

Bradford Interchange bus station will officially reopen on January 5th, as confirmed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority today. Following a year-long closure to address structural concerns, the station will once again welcome passengers, with several safety measures in place.

The Interchange was initially closed last January after a concrete fall in the basement area led to a full structural survey. Independent experts, along with the Combined Authority’s assessments, have now confirmed that it is safe to reopen.

“I’m delighted that the Bradford Interchange bus station will reopen in the new year,” said Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin. “I recognise the closure has caused real hardship for people in Bradford, but safety has always been my number one priority – and we couldn’t reopen the bus station until we were absolutely sure it was safe to do so.”

As part of the preparations, the station is undergoing thorough health and safety checks, staff training, and a deep clean, with the travel centre being moved back into the station.

While most areas will be fully operational, six out of the 29 bus stands will remain closed until at least April 2025 due to ongoing resurfacing work, meaning some bus services will continue to run from on-street stops. Passengers will be informed about specific service locations in the coming weeks.

Real-time information displays will also be unavailable until February, while new bus timetables are being developed. Extra staff will be on hand to assist passengers, and printed schedules will be available at each bus stop to keep everyone informed.

Passengers arriving at the lower concourse can already access the lifts, escalator, and toilets, which reopened earlier this week.
