According to the lawyer of the family of the teenager who travelled to Syria in order to join Islamic State (Isis,) have been informed that the Home Office intends to revoke her British citizenship.
Shamima Begum, who travelled from her home in east London aged 15 is now in a refugee camp in Syria, where she gave birth to a boy this weekend.
In a TV interview, Begum, who is now 19 requested that the British people have sympathy for her, saying she didn’t know what she was getting herself into and asked that she be allowed to return to the UK. However, the Home Secretary, Said David has stated that he will do everything in his power to stop her coming back.
Today, the family’s lawyer revealed that Begum’s relatives were “very disappointed with the Home Office’s intention to have an order made depriving Shamima of her citizenship. We are considering all legal avenues to challenge this decision.”
