Free Training Courses for North Yorkshire Landlords to Enhance Property Quality

Landlords in North Yorkshire will have the opportunity to access free training aimed at improving the quality of rental properties across the region. Starting this month, North Yorkshire Council is collaborating with the National Residential Landlord Association (NRLA) to offer online courses that cover critical topics such as condensation, mould, dampness, and energy efficiency.

Cllr Simon Myers, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for housing, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “Working with the National Residential Landlord Association is allowing us to provide a range of training and support to our landlords. I encourage as many landlords as possible to get involved whether they are new to the sector or have many years of experience.”

The first course, focused on condensation and dampness, will take place on Wednesday, October 16, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Participants will learn about common causes of dampness, the various types, and the associated legislation and responsibilities of landlords, agents, and tenants. The session will also cover the significance of heating, ventilation, and thermal insulation. Interested landlords can book their places at NRLA Training Academy.

Following this, a course on energy efficiency is scheduled for Friday, November 8, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. This session will address regulations and legal requirements affecting energy efficiency, grant funding streams, and updates on energy performance certificates. Bookings for this course can be made at Energy Efficiency Training.

Next year, two additional courses will be offered. On February 10, from 9.30am to 4pm, a course will provide basic advice and guidance for landlords, covering topics such as pre-tenancy obligations, energy performance certificates, gas safety, and property standards. Interested participants can register at Landlord Fundamentals Training.

Lastly, on Wednesday, March 12, from 10am to 4pm, the focus will shift to electrical safety. This course will explore the basic principles of electrical surveys, when to engage a qualified electrician, electrical installation condition reports, and portable appliance testing. To secure a spot, visit Electrical Safety Training.

Places for all courses are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees who are unable to participate are encouraged to cancel their bookings to allow others on the waiting list the opportunity to attend. This initiative represents a significant step toward enhancing the standards of rental properties in North Yorkshire, ensuring that landlords are well-equipped to meet evolving regulations and provide quality housing for tenants.
