Between 25th and 31st May, Leeds played host to a series of major live events at Temple Newsam, with 75,000 fans attending over the course of the week. Independent Yorkshire promoter Futuresound delivered its largest event series yet, including the popular Live At Leeds In The Park and Slam Dunk festivals, before wrapping up with a special celebration of Kaiser Chiefs’ 20th anniversary album Employment.
Live At Leeds In The Park, now in its fourth year, welcomed 18,000 visitors to an expanded site featuring two main stages. Headliners Bloc Party performed their debut album Silent Alarm in full, alongside Manic Street Preachers, local favourites Yard Act, pop star Natasha Bedingfield, and many others. New for this year was a Comedy Tent, with performances from Maisie Adam and other top acts.
Slam Dunk, known for its punk and alternative rock line-up, brought 30,000 fans to Temple Newsam as part of its 19th anniversary. The festival featured big names from the US and UK, including A Day To Remember, Alkaline Trio, Neck Deep, and Hot Milk.
The celebrations concluded with a one-day event marking 20 years since Kaiser Chiefs released Employment. The band played the album in full for 27,000 fans, supported by Razorlight, The Cribs, We Are Scientists, and local acts. Leeds United’s Championship trophy and star player Patrick Bamford also made appearances, with Bamford joining the band on stage for a rendition of ‘I Predict A Riot’.
Futuresound worked closely with local suppliers and charities, including the Yorkshire Children’s Charity, to support the local economy and community throughout the events.
Andy Smith, Head of Live at Futuresound, said: “We’re proud to have brought 75,000 people together at Temple Newsam. These events really showcase the spirit of Leeds and its music scene. We can’t wait to build on this success.”
