One of Leeds’ newest South Indian restaurants, UYARE by Tharavadu, welcomed international film star Mads Mikkelsen over the weekend. Best known for his roles in Hannibal, Casino Royale, and Another Round, Mikkelsen visited the restaurant with Oscar-winning editor and director Lee Smith and film producer Pascal Degove.
The trio were in town to discuss their upcoming film Sirus, a new thriller currently in development. While the project remains under wraps, it didn’t stop the group from enjoying a full South Indian spread at UYARE, which is quickly gaining a reputation for its bold menu and warm hospitality.

According to the restaurant, Mikkelsen’s evening began with a selection of starters including Masala Fried Cauliflower, Crispy Fried Fish, and Kanthari Chicken, a house special made with green chilli marinade. For mains, he chose a mix of Pothu Koonu Masala (buffalo curry), Kunjaadu Curry (Kerala-style lamb), and Chemmeen Roast (spiced king prawns), all served with Kerala Parathas and Carrot Coconut Rice. The meal was paired with a Cobra Beer.
Restaurant staff shared that Mikkelsen called the experience “truly unforgettable” and personally thanked chefs Ajith Kumar and Francis before posing for photos with the team.

UYARE has been drawing plenty of attention recently. Just days before, it hosted cricket stars visiting Leeds for the India vs England Test match. Its sister restaurant, Tharavadu, has also welcomed a string of high-profile guests over the years, including Simon Pegg, Rebel Wilson, and the Indian Cricket Team.
Siby Jose, founder of UYARE, said: “Our staff aren’t new to high-profile guests. After all, our sister restaurant, Tharavadu, has seen the likes of Simon Pegg, Rebel Wilson, Virat Kohli, and the entire Indian Cricket Team over the past 11 years. We’re proud to bring that same hospitality and excellence to UYARE.”
With its South Indian menu, striking views, and a growing list of famous visitors, UYARE is quickly becoming a standout dining spot in Leeds.
