Pupils and staff at Ingleton Primary School, near Skipton, are celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report that praised the school across all key areas, highlighting its positive ethos, inclusive environment and high expectations.
Following a recent inspection, the rural North Yorkshire school was rated “good” in the four main areas of education quality, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management. Ofsted no longer issues a single-word overall judgement, but the school received consistently positive feedback throughout the report.
Inspectors recognised the school’s broad and balanced curriculum and its strong focus on reading. Relationships between pupils and staff were described as “warm and caring”, and children were praised for being well-mannered, motivated and happy.

Ingleton Primary, which has 184 pupils and a motto of “tall oaks from little acorns grow”, impressed inspectors with its focus on ambition and achievement, especially under its new leadership. Phonics and provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) were identified as stand-out strengths.
Inspectors also noted the school’s behaviour policy, which focuses on positive relationships and meaningful praise. Teachers were commended for regularly recognising children’s hard work and efforts, helping to create a culture where pupils feel valued and encouraged.
The school provides a variety of enrichment opportunities, including interhouse quizzes and competitions, to support pupils’ wider development and encourage a sense of community and achievement.
Councillor Annabel Wilkinson, North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for education, learning and skills, said: “While we celebrate the achievement of this ambitious and inclusive school, it is wonderful to see the dedication of the enthusiastic, highly skilled and knowledgeable staff and governors to provide the best possible education for every child and ensure they reach their true potential. Congratulations to everyone at Ingleton Primary School.”

The report comes just five weeks into Jen Middleton’s first headship. Reflecting on the timing of the inspection, she said: “Having an Ofsted inspection just five weeks into my first headship was certainly a challenge, but it was also a valuable opportunity to showcase our wonderful school that we are incredibly proud of. The way our pupils, parents and staff came together to demonstrate the strength and spirit of our school community says everything about our school. Ingleton Primary School really is a special place, and I am pleased that the inspectors felt that too.”
Chair of governors, Jenny Thistlethwaite, added: “The governing body welcomes the recent Ofsted report and is pleased to note the inspectors recognised the values central to our school ethos. The report acknowledges the strong leadership of our school and the caring relationship between pupils and staff. This report is an achievement for staff and leadership, and they should feel rightly proud of their efforts and commitment.”
