Yorkshire-based homeless charity, Simon On The Streets, is gearing up for its annual Simon’s Big Sleep Out, an inspiring event set to take place on 10th October 2024, coinciding with World Homeless Day. This initiative aims to shine a light on the growing issue of homelessness in Yorkshire, urging the community to unite and experience a night on the streets of Leeds, much like those the charity supports every day.
This year marks the third time Leeds Civic Hall will host Simon’s Big Sleep Out, promising an evening filled with thought-provoking guest speakers, hearty food, and lively entertainment. With over 100 spots available, participants can join this significant event for just £30, a fee that helps cover event costs and bolsters the charity’s vital fundraising efforts.

Reflecting on the event, CEO Natalie Moran said: “We’re incredibly excited that for the first time, Simon’s Big Sleep Out will take place on World Homeless Day. This is incredibly poignant for us, particularly in the year that the charity celebrates its 25th anniversary.”
The 2023 event saw 80 participants brave the elements, raising a record-breaking £30,000. The experience was particularly impactful, as attendees faced a storm in the early hours, prompting deep reflection on the daily struggles of those without shelter. “The event’s impact was really felt by all who attended,” said Moran. “So many questions were raised about how the people we support deal with rain and where they leave their belongings; it made people think. That’s what Simon’s Big Sleep Out is all about.”

As an independent charity, Simon On The Streets relies heavily on fundraising events like this to achieve its long-term goals. The funds raised are crucial for investing in their dedicated team of outreach workers who provide essential support to the homeless community.
Join Simon On The Streets for Simon’s Big Sleep Out on Thursday, 10th October 2024, and help make a difference, one night at a time. This event is more than just a fundraiser; it’s an opportunity to connect, understand, and contribute to a cause that affects us all.
