Residents in North Yorkshire are being urged to take advantage of a free energy group-buying scheme aimed at securing better deals for households.
Supported by North Yorkshire Council, the Big Community Switch allows households to access energy tariffs below the Ofgem Price Cap. The scheme also ensures that all participating suppliers offer 100 per cent renewable electricity, aligning with the council’s sustainability goals.
Through the initiative, suppliers compete to provide the lowest tariff, removing the need for residents to compare multiple deals. Those who register receive a personalised offer and can decide whether to switch. Registration is free and carries no obligation to accept the deal.
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for housing, Cllr Simon Myers, said: “The nationwide scheme is a fantastic opportunity for residents in the county to explore better energy options and potentially save money on their bills.
“It offers free registration, with no obligation on whether to accept the offer. This helps to make the process simple and stress-free.
“With registration now open, we are encouraging households to act quickly to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The Big Community Switch has been running since 2012 and has seen more than 2.1 million people express interest in switching their energy contracts.
George Frost, UK country manager at iChoosr, which runs the scheme, said: “Rising energy costs have placed a significant burden on households. This scheme offers a practical starting point for residents to make an informed decision about switching their energy supplier.
“By coming together as a community, people in North Yorkshire can access tariffs offered through the scheme that might not be available to them individually.”
Residents can register online before 28 April. More information about the Big Community Switch is available at www.northyorks.gov.uk/EnergySwitching.
