Two long-vacant school sites in Silsden could soon be transformed into a new £15 million housing development, following the submission of plans by Yorkshire-based property developer Redstart Robinson.
Proposals submitted to City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (CBMDC) would see the former school sites on Elliott Street and Hothfield Street redeveloped to deliver a total of 48 new homes, including 10 affordable units. The brownfield plots, which have been empty for around three years, were once home to Victorian-era school buildings but have remained unused since the opening of a larger primary school nearby.
Under the new proposals, the derelict school buildings would be demolished and replaced with a mix of high-quality new-build homes. Both sites are already allocated for residential use under CBMDC’s housing supply strategy and the plans align with the council’s wider objective to revitalise underused land.

Andrew Foggitt, director of Redstart Robinson Developments, said:
“These sites offer an opportunity to provide a well-balanced mix of housing while bringing new life to two long-vacant plots in the heart of Silsden.
“Our proposals align with Bradford Council’s commitment to regenerating brownfield land and meeting local housing needs and, subject to approval, we’re excited to move forward and bring this high-quality development to life for the benefit of the community.”
The developer has also committed to environmental responsibility through Section 106 contributions, which include funding for the South Pennine Moors Special Area of Conservation and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) payments.
If the plans are approved, construction could begin within three months, with the full build expected to take between 12 and 18 months. The scheme is also expected to support the local economy, generating construction jobs throughout the project.
