Primary School Applications Now Open for North Yorkshire

Parents and carers in North Yorkshire with children due to start primary school in September 2025 can now submit applications. Children born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021 are eligible, with the deadline for applications set for 15th January 2025.

North Yorkshire Council advises submitting up to five schools in order of preference to increase the likelihood of securing a preferred place. Cllr Annabel Wilkinson, executive member for education, learning, and skills, highlighted the importance of making timely applications:

“For a child to be allocated a school place, it is crucial that you make an application to the local authority where you live, and the deadline to apply is January 15, 2025,” she said.

Even if a child is attending nursery or has a sibling at the preferred school, applications must still be made. Missing the deadline could affect the outcome.

Additionally, changes to home-to-school travel eligibility this year may influence decisions. Families can find further details and use an online tool to locate their nearest school on the North Yorkshire Council website.

School places will be confirmed on National Offer Day, 16th April 2025. Last year, 96% of families in North Yorkshire secured their first-choice school.
