The Yorkshire Society is gearing up for what it expects to be the “best ever” Yorkshire Heritage Summit, set to take place on Tuesday, 13 May at the beautifully restored Skipton Town Hall.
Now in its fourth year, the popular event will bring together around 30 heritage organisations from across the region, from East Yorkshire to the coast, for a day of connection, conversation and celebration of Yorkshire’s rich natural and cultural legacy.
Phil Bell, CEO of The Yorkshire Society, said: “Given the interest and support coming from as far away as East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Coast, there is every chance that our 2025 event will be the best Yorkshire Heritage Summit ever.”
The Summit is designed as an informal forum, giving voluntary heritage groups large and small the chance to meet, share ideas and showcase their work preserving and promoting Yorkshire’s history.
A key feature of the day will be a free public Heritage Exhibition in the Town Hall’s Concert Hall, running from 10 am to 4 pm. The exhibition will be the centrepiece of the event, offering visitors the chance to explore the work of local groups and learn more about Yorkshire’s rich and varied past.
“This is all about sharing awareness of all the great things that there are to see and do in our wonderful region,” said Colin Speakman, Heritage Lead for The Yorkshire Society. “There will be displays to enjoy, conversations to be had, events to put in your diary and campaigns to support. And the Society has already been overwhelmed by the warmth and friendliness of the welcome from the people of Craven.”
In addition to the main exhibition, a pre-bookable Heritage Symposium will be held in the afternoon, featuring speakers and panel discussions. Three expert-led walking tours, delivered in partnership with Skipton Civic Society, will allow attendees to explore Skipton’s history as a market town and industrial hub.
The day will conclude with an informal evening of traditional and modern Yorkshire folk music at Skipton’s historic Black Horse Inn.
