The Bradford Super Soapbox Challenge Returns Next Month

Bradford city centre is preparing for the return of the Bradford Super Soapbox Challenge on Sunday, May 4th. With just under two weeks to go, organisers are finalising the plans for this popular event.

More than 20 custom-built soapbox carts will race through the city, starting on Kirkgate, continuing down Bank Street, and finishing on Market Street, which has recently been pedestrianised. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the races, which will entertain all ages.

In addition to the races, there will be children’s funfair rides on Market Street. The event will also support local businesses, drawing crowds to the city centre.

Jonny Noble, Chief Executive of Bradford BID, said: “The Bradford Super Soapbox Challenge is back for its fourth year, and we can’t wait for another feel-good, family-friendly day. The city centre looks fantastic, and this event is a great way for people to experience the changes brought by the transformation works, with the newly pedestrianised areas playing a key role in the day.”

This year, Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be the charity partner and will bring a flight simulator for attendees to try.

The event is free to attend, with the first race set to begin around 11am on Kirkgate. Organisers recommend arriving early for the best views. Races will continue throughout the day, with the fastest carts progressing to the next rounds. Awards will be presented in categories including Fastest Time, Innovative Cart Design, and Best Turned-Out Soapbox Crew.

For those travelling by car, there are several nearby car parks. Public transport links and taxi ranks are available on Sunbridge Road.
