The Broadway, Bradford has made a donation of £5,880 to Bradford Hospitals’ Charity – the official NHS charity of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – following the sale of a huge light installation which appeared in the shopping centre in early 2020.
The four-metre high angel wings installation was placed in The Broadway to commemorate the amazing work undertaken by the NHS, particularly during the height of the pandemic.
Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway, said: “Back in October 2020 we wanted to show our appreciation to all the key workers in the district and arranged for a huge NHS light installation to sit on the mall.
“It gave shoppers a great selfie opportunity but importantly, we asked for uploads to social media to tag #BroadwayThanksNHS. We had a huge response as it allowed the local community to directly show their gratitude for all the incredible work taking place across the district.
“We regularly change the installations on the mall and we thought it was appropriate to donate the funds received upon the sale of the structure to Bradford Hospitals’ Charity. We’re delighted to be able to do this and once again, a huge thank you to all NHS workers for the invaluable and incredible work they do on a daily basis.”
Since 2016 The Broadway has raised more than £42,000 for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity. The funds raised enable the continued provision of specialist care to families across Bradford through the purchase of state of the art equipment, continued support for the staff who work at the Teaching Hospitals and regular upgrades to the facilities available.
Hayley Collis, Head of Fundraising for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, said: “Thank you so much to The Broadway for this incredibly kind donation. The Broadway’s support means so much to all our staff, who have worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and this money will be split between our children’s fund and our NHS Hospital Heroes appeal, which funds support for our staff.
“As an NHS charity, we work hard to enhance our hospital services to ensure our patients receive the very best care and treatment. As a special thank you for this donation, we will be dedicating one of our festive snowflakes to The Broadway as part of our Snowflake Appeal. Our snowflakes will light up our hospital buildings this festive season as a reminder of the generosity and support of our community.”
