Almost 50,000 people lined the streets of Leeds City Centre yesterday for the annual Leeds Pride Parade – “the biggest celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Translife in Yorkshire”.
The parade of 120 brightly decorated floats began at Millenium Square, where there was plenty of live entertainment and fun activities for the whole family. The warm weather was no doubt a welcome bonus to all those who attended!
Liaqat Ali, Director of Leeds Pride, said:
“It’s massively important that Pride events still happen.
It’s not the protest that it was, but it’s still so relevant now, there’s about 70 countries where it’s still illegal to be gay.
Leeds is actually leading the way, we’re one of the few Prides that is still free and open to everyone regardless of age, gender, sexuality -anything like that – it’s open to everyone.”
