A brand new wedding event is coming to York this spring with a clear mission: to help couples plan their big day in a way that’s kinder to the planet.
The Sustainable Wedding Fair, the first of its kind in the city, will take place at Tea by the Lock in Naburn on Sunday, 27th April from 10 am to 4 pm. The event is free to attend and aims to showcase local suppliers who put sustainability at the heart of what they do.

The idea was born from a collaboration between Lucie Pope, founder of eco-conscious dried floral business Into the Hedgerow, and Ruth Richards, owner of the event’s host venue, Tea by the Lock. Together, they have created a space for couples to explore wedding planning with a more ethical, nature-friendly approach.

Lucie was inspired by her upbringing, surrounded by wildlife and her mother’s work rescuing animals. She hopes the event will show that sustainable weddings can still be beautiful and personal. “We want to highlight what’s possible when planning your wedding with the environment in mind,” she says.
Visitors can expect to meet a range of independent local suppliers, including Humanist wedding celebrant Rachael Bowers, vegan and cruelty-free makeup and hair artist Charlotte Hubbard, and calligraphy artist Hannah Gibbons. There will also be live music, plant-based wedding cake, and vintage crockery hire.

A recent study by The Sustainable Wedding Alliance found that 98% of couples considered sustainability an important part of their wedding planning. Lucie and Ruth hope this new event will help turn that awareness into action.
With a welcoming atmosphere, free entry and refreshments available throughout the day, the Sustainable Wedding Fair offers a relaxed and inspiring way to explore greener wedding options.
