The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA) flagship charity superstore, The Hanger and Landing Pad Café in Doncaster, is celebrating a major milestone—funding more than 1,000 lifesaving missions for critically ill babies and children across the UK. Since opening on 22nd October 2019, the store has been instrumental in generating millions of pounds to support the charity’s vital work.
Situated at Thorne Road Retail Park, Doncaster, The Hanger has raised £3,255,398 from sales and an additional £742,335 through its café over the past five years. These funds have directly supported over 1,000 high-speed missions, transporting seriously ill children to specialist hospitals in helicopters equipped with flying intensive care units.
Community Support and a Prestigious Award
A key factor in the store’s success is the generous support from the local community, with The Hanger having received 257,631 bags of donated goods to date. However, the charity continues to rely on further donations of new and preloved items to keep raising much-needed income.
In recognition of its outstanding contribution, The Hanger was named the Yorkshire winner in The UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Awards as part of the Charity Retail Association’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
The Charity Retail Association is the primary membership body for charity shops across the UK, dedicated to promoting a successful and trusted charity retail sector. The Hanger’s award is a testament to its positive impact on both the community and the charity it supports.

Funding Lifesaving Missions
The Children’s Air Ambulance plays a crucial role in providing urgent transfers for critically ill babies and children, flying them to specialist hospitals across the UK. The helicopters, designed as flying intensive care units, are staffed by expert medical teams who provide life-saving care during the flights. TCAA works in partnership with 11 NHS Clinical Partner Teams, including Embrace Yorkshire & Humber Infant & Children’s Transport Service, part of Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Store Manager Emma Hanson said, “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone in the local community who has supported us over the last five years, and we are extremely pleased to have recently been awarded the title of Yorkshire winner in The UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Awards and we can’t thank everyone enough for voting for us.”
She also highlighted the importance of the store’s contributions, adding, “We receive no government or National Lottery funding, so funds raised in the superstore and while visiting our café help to keep our lifesaving missions possible.”
How to Get Involved
Continued support from the community is essential for The Hanger to fund more lifesaving missions. Donations of new and preloved goods are always welcome to keep the charity store’s success going.
