Sukhothai is one of many Thai Restaurants in Leeds. It’s also one of our best restaurants in Leeds. Since it first opened its doors in the heart of Chapel Allerton on the outskirts of Leeds City Centre in 2002, the Sukhothai brand has expanded successfully across the region now boasting four exceedingly popular restaurants, the original in Chapel Allerton, Headingley, Leeds City Centre and Harrogate.
Since 2002, the reputation of the restaurant, its food and its fabulous service has grown tremendously, and for those of you wondering if it’s warranted… it certainly is.
The continuing popularity of Sukhothai is the loving result of the fiercely passionate Head Chef and owner Ban Kaewkraikhot’s drive and ambition. The brand and its various restaurants have become famous across the region, for its delicious food, outstanding, personable service and its pioneering approach to sharing Thai food with the British public
What Does Sukhothai Mean?
Head Chef and owner Ban was brought up just outside the city and developed her love of food whilst cooking with her mother. It was there that she would experiment with flavours and the local produce of the region.
After leaving home, she worked in the street markets of Bangkok, learning her craft and earning the funds need to open her own resturant. Whilst running this restaurant, she met many British people who were crazy about her food. Fast forward some years and Ban made her way to Leeds, where she worked in a busy restaurant.
Since opening her first restaurant in Chapel Allerton some 16 years ago, Sukhothai has been praised with a myriad of awards, even being included in the Good Food Guide and The Sunday Times Food list. A restaurant representative said “Sukhothai is very proud of its rave reviews and regular awards, we have consistently won ever since we opened.
We’ve been a regular listing in the prestigious Good Food Guide and Harden’s, plus we’ve received recognition in The Times and Sunday Times and recognised locally by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Oliver Awards.”
