With the government ordering the closure of all pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants on Friday 20th March, all local restaurants have closed their doors to the general public. As many of us fear for our health and the wellbeing of our families, local restauranteurs have the additional worry of trying ensure their businesses will survive this unprecedented pandemic.
Skipton is home to some truly wonderful independent restaurants, many of which have been serving the local community for a considerable number of years. Local restaurants have played an important role in most of our lives. We’ve relied on their experience, expertise and hospitality to make birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, proposals and various other celebrations that little bit more memorable. Now, and for the foreseeable, our local restaurant owners need our support to enable them to overcome the inevitable storm that COVID-19 is inflicting on independent businesses across the country.
Rebecca Elsworth of Elsworth Kitchen said:
“In these uncertain times we want to help the community but also help our small business and protect our team members. We are all in this together.”
In response to Boris Johnson’s announcement on Friday afternoon, Skipton restaurants have worked hard to put together some amazing offers and takeaway menus. These new services being implemented by local eateries, will not only enable them to continue trading, but will provide a vital service for the most vunerable members of our society, who are unable to leave their homes over the coming months.
Here are some of the restaurants offering alternative ways to enjoy their freshly cooked meals during the Corornavirus pandemic:
Elsworth Kitchen is a relatively new addition to the Skipton restaurant scene but they’ve worked phenomenally hard to build up an excellent reputation in the town and have won numerous awards. Known for serving perfectly presented dishes, made using using the freshest of local ingredients, their takeaway offering is bound to be a hit. Used to hosting booked-out foodie events and serving a lively restaurant full of hungry customers, owners Bruce and Rebecca are now offering both lunch and dinner takeaway menus. The menus are currently as follows:
Oakley’s Grill and Pizzeria is a wonderful family-friendly restaurant with an excellent reputation. Probably best known for their mouthwatering burgers and generous sized calzones, these guys know how to serve calories!
Their delivery service will now 12 – 9 pm every day. The menu includes all the most popular dishes previously available to eat in, including their epic Pizza Fries. These guys will no doubt post regular offers on their Facebook page so make sure you keep checking. Here’s the Oakley’s delivery menu. Enjoy…
Anyone who lives in Skipton will have already sampled, or at least heard about the fantastic home-cooked food served in this great little pub. You’ll be pleased to know (we certainly are) that The Railway are also one of those offering a local takeway service. The affordable menu includes some of their most popular dishes, such as their mindblowingly scrumptious Cheese & Onion Pie and their ever so indulgent Sticky Toffee Pudding. Booze is also available for delivery – hurrah! Details are as follows:
Skipton’s very own pirate-themed Tex Mex restaurant has always been heaving with happy families and large parties on Friday and Saturday nights. Offering a fun, laidback atmosphere and an extensive menu of burgers, pizzas, salads, grills and spicy Tex Mex favourites, it boasts an impressive reputation locally. Many will no doubt be sad to see them closing their doors and we’re sure a huge number of people were looking forward to enjoying upcoming celebrations there.
These guys were super quick to respond to Friday’s announcement and they’ve already adapted their website to allow customers to place orders online. Choose to collect from the restaurant or have Calico classics delivered straight to your door for an additional charge of £1.50. Here are just a couple of the dishes on offer:
We’ll be updating this list over the coming weeks as menus change and other restaurants implement changes. Please remember to be considerate of staff when collecting any orders. It is imperative that, as a community, we adhere to advice and instructions issued by the government and the NHS. Skipton restaurants all boast excellent hygiene ratings, but will of course, be taking extra precautions during this global health crisis.
If you are a local business offering a new service during the COVID-19 crisis, we will happily assist in promoting this for you free of charge. Please send details to email@example.com.
