Look Inside One of Thirsk’s Oldest Homes – Now on the Market

Just a 5-minute drive from the popular market town of Thirsk is the pretty village of Sowerby. Once home to author James Herriot, this picturesque village of one of the most popular places to live in the Hambleton district. Some of the properties in Sowerby date back hundreds of years and we’ve found one in particular which is thought to be around 650 years old. This stunning 4-bed semi-detached home is now on the market and we’re feeling a tad envious of the lucky people who will make it their new home.

Oxmoor Farm on Front Street is by far, one of the oldest properties in the village of Sowerby. Set back off the main street and absolutely bursting with charm, this historic property has much to offer and is currently on the market for £599,999.

Spacious and well-presented, this stunning home boasts two reception rooms on the ground floor, each featuring wood-burning stoves. A further reception room on this floor has the potential to be turned into the 4th bedroom or perhaps, a children’s playroom. On this floor, there’s also a large kitchen diner and a separate utility room.

The other three bedrooms are located on the first floor of the property, including a generously sized master bedroom with exposed beams and a handy walk-in wardrobe.

As well as having a considerable amount of living space within the property itself, Oxmoor Farm also has an external games room / home office and a traditional brick barn. If one were to acquire the appropriate planning permission, this barn could potentially be turned into a small annexe.

As regards to external space, there’s a landscaped walled garden to the rear of the house which has a large lawn area and a raised patio, perfect for al fresco dining and entertaining,

This really is a beautiful home and it’s plain to see that a great deal of love has gone into preserving and decorating the 650-year old property. Full of character and offering plenty of space, it would make a wonderful family home for those who like the peace and tranquillity of village life.
