The shortlists for the Deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards have been announced – and York Gin appears in three categories.

The original York Gin – the classic London Dry – has been shortlisted for Best Spirit along with Masons, Whitby Gin & Harrogate Tipple. York Gin has already won two stars at the Great Taste Awards this summer.

York Gin’s shop in Sir Thomas Herbert’s on Pavement is shortlisted for Best Independent Retailer. As well as York Gin’s award-winning gins, the shop sells other Yorkshire-made gins (including Masons and Whitby Gin). And it stocks Yorkshire-made gifts, including fridge magnets, key rings and gin racks from York’s upcycling company PurePallets. It’s up against Cedarbarn Farm Shop, Minskip Farm Shop and Rafi’s Spicebox.

Meanwhile, York-based Bessie’s Yorkshire Preserves have been shortlisted for their Grapefruit & York Gin Marmalade in the Sweet Preserves category. (You can buy the marmalade at the York Gin shop.)

It’s up against Bert’s Barrow’s Strawberry Jam, Rosalind’s Larder’s Blackberry, Rhubarb & Liquorice Jam and Tickle Your Tastebuds’ Granny’s Gooseberry Jam.

The shortlists were produced after a week of judging by chefs, food writers and critics, as well as supermarket buyers and retail experts and Yorkshire food enthusiast BBC Radio 2’s Nigel Barden.

Winners will be announced at a glittering black tie awards ceremony at the Pavilions of Harrogate on Wednesday 6th November.

York Gin director Emma Godivala said:

“Yorkshire’s food and drink scene is flourishing- so we’re delighted that we’re through to the finals for these awards. Just getting on to the shortlists is a real achievement. And we’re so chuffed our shop is being recognised.”

York Gin shop manager Sandie Tanner-Smith said:

“So many of our customers say they love the look and feel of our shop – and they’re often amazed at the level service they receive. So to be recognised in the Deliciouslyorkshire Awards is brilliant.”
