Anne Lister, who was born on 3rd April 1791 and died on 22nd September 1840, left behind more than five million words in her diaries. On Sunday morning, flowers will be laid at the Anne Lister sculpture in the Piece Hall at 9.30am.

Guided walks, exhibitions and community events will take place throughout Halifax. A new addition for 2025 is a guided herb walk in the grounds of Shibden Hall on Sunday 21st September.

Home to Eureka!, Shibden Hall, The Piece Hall, a bustling market and a plethora of iconic buildings, Halifax in Calderdale doesn’t have the reputation for being a popular tourist town but it should! Often overlooked in favour of places such as Leeds, Bradford and York, Halifax boasts some fantastic attractions and incredible architecture. In fact, it has one of the most complete Victorian townscapes in Britain.

If you’re looking for your next family day out or planning your summer itinerary, be sure to consider a visit to this great industrial town as there is much to see and do. Halifax is also home to some great little eateries and when visiting a new place, it’s good to know which ones are worth visiting. With brunch being the ideal meal for travellers and tourists, we’ve put together a list of places where you can get a great brunch in Halifax…

6 Great Places to Get Brunch in Halifax

Urban Garden Kitchen & Bar

13 Ward’s End, Halifax HX1 1BX

Urban Garden Kitchen & Bar is an excellent independent cafe bar with a varied menu plus indoor and outdoor dining areas. Their menu is bursting with tasty treats and they’re known locally for their excellent picnic bench afternoon teas and their devilishly delicious freak shakes. They also offer a great Brunch menu which is available throughout the day. On there you’ll find breakfast favourites like Avocado or Eggs on Toast plus a veggie or non-veggie Full English. However, their most tempting option by far has to be their Canadian Waffle brunch. Breaded chicken with bacon sandwiched between two freshly made waffles and drizzled with maple syrup. Yum yum! Prices for brunch start at just £2.95 (Porridge) and a Full English will cost you £7.95.

The Mill Bar & Kitchen

Unit 1&2, F Mill, Dean Clough, Halifax HX3 5AX

Located in the historic Dean Clough Mills, The Mill Bar & Kitchen is incredibly popular with locals. The year before, owners Allen and Julie had successfully run a business selling colourful snow cone treats. Their decision to expand and open their licensed cafe, Ey Up Puddin, was a wise one. Whilst still serving their fun snow cones, which are always a hit with the kids, they have extended their offering to include breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and a whole range of sweet treats. Open daily from 9 am, they offer decent homecooked food in a laidback and comfortable venue. Start your day with a hearty Full English breakfast or opt for something sweeter and tuck into their topped Belgian waffles or freshly made crepes.
