Harewood House is set to unveil Harewood in Bloom this May Bank Holiday, a vibrant new event celebrating the beauty and seasonality of one of Yorkshire’s most historic gardens. From 2 to 4 May 2026, the 140-acre estate will showcase 40,000 spring bulbs, marking one of the largest single plantings at Harewood for a century.

The event, delivered in partnership with award-winning florist Leafy Couture, features floral installations that transform the State Floor of the house into a celebration of spring. Highlights include handcrafted paper flower displays and seven arrangements in the Gallery, each designed by a different award-winning florist. Outside, visitors can witness the rare flowering of the Davidia involucrata, also known as the pocket handkerchief tree, which draws botanical enthusiasts for its brief early May bloom.

Leafy Couture Installation at Harewood © Leafy Couture

The grounds will feature sweeping new displays of camassias and alliums alongside wild garlic, bluebells, and heritage apple blossoms in the Walled Garden. In early May, from the glory of the Terrace to the tranquillity of the Lakeside and the Walled Garden, there are so many floral delights to discover. Much of what visitors will see can’t be planned weeks in advance. From the pocket handkerchief tree, to the bluebells, the cobra lilies and the wild garlic, they are all seasonal, making the bank holiday weekend an unmissable opportunity to discover what makes the Gardens so special.”

Zoë Hughes said: “We are delighted to be launching Harewood in Bloom this May bank holiday. May is one of the most exciting times to experience them, as the landscape bursts into colour and fragrance. Harewood in Bloom brings this to life through workshops, trails, interactive experiences and artistic displays, designed to inspire creativity and spark a sense of joy for all ages.”

Leeds’ iconic Tetley Brewery building is set to become the heart of the city’s brewing scene once again as it hosts The Great Exhibition of Prize Ales 2026. This marks a major milestone for the festival, which moves to the city centre for its fourth year, celebrating the announcement that Kirkstall Brewery has extended its stewardship of the historic site through Summer 2026 and beyond.

The event challenges breweries from across the UK to delve into their heritage and recreate historic recipes, transporting drinkers back in time. This year’s lineup features a mix of “traditional titans” and contemporary craft pioneers, including Timothy Taylor, Allsopp’s, DEYA, Marble, Anthology, and Lost Cause. Attendees will have a rare chance to sample local recipes, some hundreds of years old, brought back to life specifically for this exhibition.

Kirkstall Brewery plans to utilise the entire historic building along with the large outdoor space in Aire Park, transforming the area with bars, independent food vendors, and live music. The event will also see the return of the Prize Medals, where a panel judges the “best of the best.” Last year’s overall champion was the legendary Theakston’s Old Peculier, served traditionally “from the wood.”

Chris Hall, Brand Manager at Kirkstall Brewery, said:

“Bringing The Great Exhibition of Prize Ales to The Tetley feels very fitting indeed. The wonderful news that our lease of The Tetley has been extended offered an amazing opportunity to bring a celebration of historic beer to the home of brewing history in Leeds. Now in its fourth year, we are thrilled to bring this festival of beer, food and live music to the centre of Leeds, and shine a light on amazing brewers from across the UK who are bringing their A-game this year.”

Beyond the beer, the festival will host local food favourites like Niko’s Comfort Kitchen and The Aire Fryer, with live entertainment from acts including Alligator Gumbo and The Old Time Rags. For the first time, the festival’s new home also means the event will be dog-friendly.

Each ticket includes unlimited entry for a designated session, a commemorative glass, a festival programme, and a complimentary beer token. Following each session, attendees can head to a nearby Kirkstall Brewery venue for an official after-party, where showing the festival programme secures 20% off the first round of drinks.

Tickets are available now.

A world-class bubbleologist who has spent 20 years perfecting her craft is set to perform at Friargate Theatre for an interactive Easter special. Bubbles LaFae will bring her Bubbles in Wonderland show to the city on Saturday 4th April, after successful tours across international stages and major UK festivals.

This performance marks a unique addition to the local holiday calendar by offering a sensory experience designed to captivate children and adults alike. By combining fluid dynamics with stagecraft, the event provides a calming alternative to screen time and has been noted for its ability to engage neurodivergent children through its mesmerising effects.

The showcase features cutting-edge artistry, including LED effects, fog, and fire. Highlights of the performance include an indoor storm made of millions of bubbles and a massive bubble wall that the artist manipulates in ways that have been described as astonishing.

Bubbles LaFae, the first artist of her kind endorsed by the Arts Council, said “I’ve had mums of neurodivergent little ones tell me their child literally never sits still. Yet they’ll happily watch my entire hour-long performance, good as gold.”

She commented, “It captivates the imagination – a pure, innocent form of joy that reminds people of all ages how to play.”

Following the main event, a separately ticketed workshop allows children to step onto the Friargate Theatre stage. Here, they can learn the science behind the bubbles using illuminated light tables and get the chance to stand inside a giant bubble for a holiday photo.

The artist recently returned from a keynote speech at an international conference regarding her specialised bubble recipe. She said “I’ve spent two decades honing my bubble recipe so it can do things people have never seen before. There are no illusions in my show. It’s all real magic.”

Tickets for the live show are priced at £12.50, and the performance begins at 2pm.

By launching a mix of physical challenges and mental puzzles, the venue aims to provide a high-energy adventure hub for the region throughout the Easter break.

Visitors can start the holidays in Adventure Wood with activities like archery and axe-throwing. For those who prefer a team challenge, there are outdoor laser tag battles and immersive escape rooms where groups work together to solve clues and beat the clock.

The adrenaline levels stay high with the popular zip line and climbing wall both open for the holidays.
