In a significant boost to the local brewing scene, the renowned Riverhead Brewery Tap in Marsden, Huddersfield, is set to undergo a transformative renovation, thanks to a substantial investment exceeding £500,000 from the Ossett Brewery Pub Company.
Established in 1995, the Riverhead Brewery Tap has been a beloved destination for cask ale enthusiasts, renowned for its diverse selection, including the cherished Butterley Bitter. This ambitious endeavor marks a collaboration between Ossett Brewery and its sister company, SALT.
The venture will see the integration of SALT’s craft IPA favorites, such as Jute and Huckaback, alongside the Riverhead’s existing repertoire of nine cask ales. Scheduled for reopening on March 1st, following extensive renovation, the taproom promises an enhanced experience for patrons, with the brewery relocated to the ground floor and the site’s overall space more than doubling in size.
Ossett Brewery, which incorporated Riverhead into its portfolio of brew pubs in 2009, underscores its commitment to the local community through this substantial investment. The project follows the successful restoration of the historic Bingley in Horbury Bridge near Wakefield, a joint effort between Ossett and SALT last year.
Nestled in the heart of Marsden on Peel Street, with picturesque views of the River Colne, the Riverhead Brewery Tap has garnered accolades, including being voted the Huddersfield CAMRA Pub of the Season in Summer 2023 and featuring in the Good Beer Guide for a decade.
The centerpiece of the revamped taproom will be the new five-barrel brew house, a fusion of SALT’s modern design ethos and the pub’s traditional charm. Alongside Riverhead and Ossett’s own cask ales, patrons can savor SALT’s award-winning craft beers, complemented by a selection of spirits, wines, and “on tap” cocktails from Barrique Fine Wines, the group’s wine wholesaler.
Moreover, the taproom experience will be enriched by West Yorkshire street food vendor Baobros23, renowned for its delectable Chinese steamed buns.
Co-owner of Ossett Brewery & Pub Company, Jamie Lawson, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Riverhead Brewery Tap has played an important role in the Marsden hospitality scene for many years. This investment ensures its place at the heart of the community long into the future. We are also delighted to join forces with SALT after the huge success of ‘The Bingley’ in Horbury Bridge.”
Riverhead Brewery Tap is poised to reopen its doors to the public on Friday, March 1st, at 12 pm, inviting patrons to embark on a revitalized journey through the rich tapestry of craft brewing in Yorkshire.
