Sheffield Charity Construction Ball Raises £30,000 for St Luke’s Hospice

The longest-running construction industry event in the North has once again made a meaningful impact. This year’s Sheffield Charity Construction Ball raised £30,000 for St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield’s leading provider of specialist palliative care.

Held at the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel earlier this month, the black-tie evening brought together more than 230 guests from across the construction and property sector. Organised by Arup, HLM Architects and Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB), the event combined fundraising with celebration, aiming to support vital services at a time of growing need.

Guests enjoyed a three-course dinner and live entertainment from magician Ben Hanlin, known for his television appearances and energetic performances. The night also featured speeches from St Luke’s Chief Executive Jo Lenton and RLB Managing Partner Matt Summerhill, who both spoke about the importance of supporting local hospice care.

A key moment in the evening was the charity auction. One of the standout items was a limited-edition piece of artwork titled Here For Sheffield by local artist Luke Horton. The artwork, which celebrates the city’s spirit, sold for £2,000 to Wayne Balance of Apex Consulting. Other prizes included VIP tickets to the popular Tramlines Festival.

This year, fundraising focused on supporting the purchase of cuddle beds for St Luke’s patients. These hospital-style beds are wider than standard and allow patients and loved ones to lie side by side, offering comfort and connection during end-of-life care. With each bed costing £15,000, donations on the night covered the cost of two.

Matt Sheridan, Senior Fundraising Manager at St Luke’s Hospice, said:

“We are truly humbled by the generosity of everyone who attended this year’s Sheffield Charity Construction Ball.

“In a time when hospice fundraising and resources are under increasing pressure, support like this is not only appreciated, it is absolutely vital.

“The incredible efforts of the organising teams at Arup, HLM Architects and Rider Levett Bucknall, along with the wider Sheffield business community, are a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared commitment to making a difference.

“Events like these don’t just raise funds, they raise awareness, build connections and help ensure that St Luke’s can continue to provide outstanding care to those who need it most.

“We are incredibly thankful for this support, which plays such an important role in sustaining our services.”

Over its 23-year history, the Construction Ball has raised over £400,000 for local charities. Past beneficiaries have included Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Weston Park Cancer Charity, Hallam Cash for Kids, The Prince’s Trust and Bluebell Wood.

This year’s sponsors included Castle Owen, Eastwood Consulting and Anderson Green.
