Pickle lovers, take note. There’s a new snack in town that is turning heads and filling baskets: the frickle.
Frickles, short for “fried pickles”, are the latest food trend gaining traction across the UK. Thanks to viral TikTok recipes and celebrity nods like Dua Lipa’s pickle cocktail, pickles are having a moment. And now, the crispy, tangy frickle is stepping into the spotlight.
Google Trends shows that searches for “pickle recipes” in the UK have jumped by 140% between January and July this year. That is a clear sign the salty snack is more popular than ever.
According to Martin Senders, Airfryer Chef at Philips, frickles are not just tasty but also surprisingly easy to make at home. “Pickles, especially fermented ones, are full of gut-friendly probiotics,” said Martin. “They’re low in calories and packed with electrolytes, so they’re a smart alternative to crisps or chips.”
Martin says the airfryer is the best way to get that perfect crunch without deep-frying. “Patting the pickles dry is key to getting them crisp. Then it is just flour, egg, breadcrumbs and a quick blast at 200°C for about 8 to 11 minutes.”
For anyone ready to give it a go, Martin recommends using the Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket Airfryer. It is available now at Currys for £129.99 with £50 off for a limited time.
