Wellington Place will become a key stop for Light Night Leeds 2025, bringing light, sound, and community spirit to the city centre this October.
Across Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October, from 6pm to 10pm, the Wellington Place Zone will offer a mix of installations, street performance and interactive art. This year also introduces a new schools exhibition created by pupils from four Leeds primary schools.
Visitors will find ‘The Dancing Fountain’, a water and light display set to music, alongside ‘Moths at Work’, a roaming street theatre piece featuring two disco moths collecting moments of joy to send back to the moon. ‘And…Breathe’, an installation by artists Eleanor Hooper and Pete Gunson with technical collaborator Jonathan Richards, will invite people to pause and reflect through gentle light and sound.

Inside 4 Wellington Place, Leeds-based Hackspace will present the ‘Light Cube’, a 3D light experience that responds to movement. Next door at 11 Wellington Place, the Light Landmarks Schools Exhibition will showcase work by pupils from Armley Park, Little London Academy, Park View and Shakespeare Primary, led by artist Gemma Wood.

Commented Sarah Limbert, Marketing Manager at Wellington Place, Federated Hermes MEPC: “We’re thrilled to be part of Light Night Leeds once again and proud to host such an engaging nature-inspired programme. We’re especially excited to showcase the creativity of local school children in the exhibition space at 11 Wellington Place. The work they’ve produced is incredibly impressive, and we can’t wait for the rest of Leeds to see it.
“The Wellington Place Zone offers a traffic-free setting just five minutes’ walk from the train station, making it an ideal spot to enjoy Light Night. Visitors can look forward to interactive installations, family-friendly entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to get involved. It’s the perfect destination for all ages to experience the magic of the event.”
The much-loved Silent Disco returns to 4 Wellington Place with family-friendly playlists. Free face painting will be on offer, alongside food from 7 Star Flag, Shoot the Bull, Pav’s Dhaba and Mexican Pilgrim. Independent roasters Bean Coffee will give away 50 hot chocolates each night from their shop at 11 Wellington Place.
The Junction area will host The Matter of the Heart, where participants wear heart monitors linked to light boxes. Each box pulses in time with an individual heartbeat, creating a shared rhythm across the space.
Commented Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture: “Some of the city’s most recognisable locations will be completely transformed for this year’s Light Night Leeds and it’s a wonderful opportunity for visitors to enjoy Leeds in a completely different way.
“It’s also fantastic to see so many of our newer public spaces hosting beautiful artworks and showcasing the city as a top cultural destination. We’re proud to be working with partners like Wellington Place to shine a light on the very best of Leeds.”
Light Night Leeds 2025 will take place across the city on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October, from 6pm to 10pm. More details about the Wellington Place Zone can be found at wellingtonplace.co.uk/light-night.
