Leeds is set for a fresh dose of Mexico City flavour as Madre prepares to open two new venues in the city. Salon Madre, its lively tequila bar, taqueria, and pool hall, will open on 5th December, with the main Madre restaurant following in the new year. The openings mark the brand’s move into its third city, joining existing locations in Manchester and Liverpool.
Madre is designed as a laid-back, 100-cover spot by day, serving long lunches built around dishes inspired by regions across Mexico. By night, it shifts into a vibrant restaurant offering Oaxacan-style moles and salsas, Baja mariscos, and Sonoran grilled meats. The founders say the space will bring Mexico’s most recognisable culinary moments to life in a warm, atmospheric dining room.

Salon Madre promises a louder, more playful edge, complete with tequila-led cocktails, DJs, pool tables, and Lucha Libre on the screens. Its menu focuses on al pastor tacos, gringas, burritos, and street food dishes that the team collected during their travels. The founders behind Madre and Salon Madre include Sam Grainger, Owain Williams, Chris Edwards, Nud Dudhia, and Chris Whitney, the creatives behind venues such as Belzan, Doug’s, Winsome, Ambers, Sister Ray, and Breddos.

Co-founder Sam Grainger said, “Mexico is alive with passionate artisans and cooks, mastering everything from street tacos to regional delicacies. It’s a world where traditions blend and evolve, and we’ve built that ethos into the heart of both Madre and Salon Madre.”
Madre also brings with it a focus on sobremesa, the Mexican tradition of lingering at the table to enjoy conversation long after the meal ends. Already well established in Liverpool and Manchester, the team says the Leeds openings will carry the same spirit, flavours, and easy-going energy that have earned the brand industry acclaim.
