Rescue centres across Yorkshire are under more pressure than ever, and now the makers of Channel 4’s The Dog House are reaching out to local people who might be thinking about adopting a rescue dog. The team behind the BAFTA-nominated series wants to hear from anyone in Yorkshire who feels ready to welcome a dog into their life, including first-time owners, families, people with existing pets, or anyone looking for companionship after a tough period.
Since it first aired in 2019, The Dog House has connected millions of viewers with the emotional stories behind rescue dog adoption. Filmed at Woodgreen Pets Charity, the show follows each dog’s journey as they are matched with people hoping to offer them a fresh start, shining a spotlight on how transformative the human and dog bond can be.

The need for adopters has never been greater. More than 47,000 people contacted Dogs Trust last year about giving up their dogs, while the RSPCA says the number of dogs in its care has doubled since 2020. Yorkshire’s own rehoming centres are feeling the impact of this nationwide surge.
But behind the statistics is a hopeful truth: life with a dog genuinely changes people for the better. Around 90% of owners say their dog improves their life. 86% say they are more physically active. 88% report better mental wellbeing. These are the stories The Dog House wants to celebrate, stories of resilience, companionship and second chances.

The production team is now inviting Yorkshire residents to share why they are considering adoption, especially those with heartfelt or personal motivations for rehoming a dog in need.
