Street Food Meets Heritage Brewing At The City Taproom In Leeds

Independent Leeds brewery Kirkstall Brewery has announced the opening of The City Taproom on Thursday 23rd April in partnership with street food icons Little Bao Boy. Located on Sovereign Street near Leeds station, the venue has undergone a full transformation to blend traditional pub elements with a modern bar style.

The bar features 16 tap lines serving Kirkstall classics like Pilsner, Virtuous, and Judicious, alongside Veltins, Guinness, and the newly returned Double Diamond. The venue also introduces 2 new cask lines, featuring Three Swords as a staple and rotating selections starting with Golden Hour. Guest beers from breweries such as Five Points, Boundary, Vault City, and Harveys will also be available.

Little Bao Boy will continue to lead the food offering with a kitchen twice its previous size, allowing for increased capacity, faster service, and new menu specials. Founded 10 years ago by James Ooi, the brand has grown from a local street food stall to a national success with locations in London and several delivery kitchens across the UK.

Steve Holt, Founder, Kirkstall Brewery, said: “The City Taproom celebrates Leeds and its rich pub and brewing heritage. We hope that it will become a popular addition to the amazing and diverse venues that make Leeds such a vibrant City for hospitality and entertainment.”

James Ooi,  Founder, Little Bao Boy, said: “We have been part of this venue since day 1, through COVID, outside seating, and new owners, and we are so excited for this refurb. On the food side, expect more collaborations, faster service, and a better overall customer experience.”

The venue is named after “The City,” a historic Leeds pub that once stood where the Dortmund Brewer statue now resides. The City Taproom will be open 7 days a week, welcoming its first customers at midday on 23rd April.
