Leeds Train Station is set to feature a unique station announcement takeover this weekend, with children from Martin House Children’s Hospice broadcasting personal messages across the tannoy system.
Commuters and visitors will hear the voices of six children, Charlie (7), Ivy (8), Shailene (12), Sadie (13), Leighton (14), and Alina (18), on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd May 2026. The children, who either receive care at the hospice or have a close family connection to it, recorded the clips to thank the public for their fundraising efforts toward The BUILD, the hospice’s new £21.9 million redevelopment project, which officially opens this June.
The multi-million-pound upgrade will introduce enhanced clinical facilities, including a specialist hydrotherapy pool, allowing the charity to expand its reach. Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, Martin House provides free palliative care, symptom management, and respite stays to more than 550 families across West, North, and East Yorkshire each year, relying almost entirely on voluntary donations.
Michelle Ford, Regional and Events Team Manager at Martin House, said:
“We can’t wait to hear the children’s messages played over the speakers! The majority of our specialist care is funded by voluntary donations and fundraising. We simply wouldn’t have been able to open our new facilities without the help of our amazing supporters. Because of you, we’ve built a legacy of care.”
