New Yorkshire Dales Retreat Opens with 13 Farmhouse Bedrooms in Malham

Hospitality operator Thwaites has opened Lister Farmhouse in Malham, converting part of a 19th-century coaching inn into 13 high-end country bedrooms.

Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the new development expands Thwaites’ existing footprint in the village, joining The Lister Arms and Lister Barn to offer a broader range of family, group, and boutique accommodation.

Interior designer Jane Goff, who previously led the interior design at Langdale Chase on Lake Windermere, headed the design process. The renovation incorporates bespoke furnishings, modernised insulation, and air-conditioning units across all 13 rooms. Alongside the accommodation launch, Thwaites appointed a new executive head chef to oversee food operations across both The Lister Arms and the nearby Buck village pub.

“This exciting project has diversified and bolstered the ways visitors and locals alike can enjoy the charming village of Malham,” said Mick Horan, Director of Inns at Thwaites. “It means that in the village you can now stay at our original inn, our spacious barn, or our brand-new farmhouse bedrooms. Malham welcomes such a wide range of visitors, so it was important to us to create versatility in our offering.”

“With a building of this age and significance, the design process was all about careful stewardship – a sensitive renovation that honours the past rather than overwrites it,” added Rick Bailey, Executive Chairman of Thwaites. “By introducing rich textures, bespoke furnishings and premium finishes, we’ve been able to deliver a sense of understated elegance.”

Nightly bed-and-breakfast rates for the Lister Farmhouse start at £185 in low season and £230 in high season.
