Actor, writer, and producer Gaynor Faye will receive an honorary Master of Arts from CU Scarborough. The award recognises her outstanding contributions to UK entertainment and her passion for championing Yorkshire on screen.
Born in Leeds, Faye built a household name starring as Judy Mallett in Coronation Street and Megan Macey in Emmerdale. She also starred in iconic regional dramas Playing the Field and Fat Friends.
The recognition holds special meaning for the actor. She recently returned to the coast to film her leading role in Hot Flash. Shot across Scarborough, Bridlington, and Flamborough, the female-led feature explores the realities of menopause.
“It’s extremely humbling,” said Gaynor Faye. “I love what I do and find it rewarding anyway, so to be recognised in this way is very special. The fact that it’s from a Yorkshire institution makes it even more meaningful because I’m a very proud Yorkshire woman.”

Faye also paid tribute to her late mother, the legendary writer and producer Kay Mellor. Mellor pioneered northern TV production, and Faye continues her legacy by mentoring emerging talent through Rollem Productions. During her visit to the Scarborough campus, Faye will meet with students to share career advice and discuss upcoming projects, including her appearance in the BBC series Northumbria Mysteries.
Jackie Mathers, Chief Academic Officer at CU Scarborough, praised the recipient. “Gaynor is one of Yorkshire’s most respected creative talents and a passionate champion of the region, its people, and its stories,” Mathers said. “We are delighted to award her an honorary Master of Arts.”
