Wellington Place, the thriving urban quarter, is set to return to Light Night Leeds with an exciting line-up of art installations and free activities, after making its debut as a zone in 2022.
Now in its 19th year, Light Night Leeds is the UK’s largest annual arts and light festival, and promises to illuminate the city with this year’s theme ‘Future Dreaming’. The festival transforms both indoor and outdoor spaces across Leeds into stunning canvases for spectacular artworks and captivating performances.
On the evenings of 12th and 13th October, visitors to the Wellington Place Zone will be treated to a dazzling array of art installations, family-friendly activities, delectable food and drink offerings, and even a silent disco.
Wellington Place will be home to two leading light installations that are sure to leave a lasting impression. The ‘This Is The Place’ Neon Art Walk, created by Emergency Exit Arts, features illuminative LED neon murals exploring themes of home, belonging, and migration, all while highlighting our connection to Earth. This interactive installation promises to cast a mesmerising rainbow spectacle across Wellington Place.
Additionally, the zone will showcase ‘Odyssey,’ an immersive journey through space, time, light, and imagination. Housed within an LED monolith structure, this light-based installation will transport viewers through the cosmos and into the vastness of space.
For those wanting a bite to eat before a busy evening of exploring, there will be street food available from local favourites Mexican Pilgrim and Shoot the Bull, as well as plenty of options and special offers from on-site bars and restaurants including Veeno, Hoist House, Good Luck Club and Mad Frans.
Attendees to Wellington Place can also explore the newly opened historic viaduct, connecting them to The Junction waterside residential development. Here, they can discover the ‘Droplets’ light installation by Ulf Pedersen, plus, engaging projections and interactive UV artwork from Feel Good Club, and a variety of food and drink options, performers and UV face painting.
