Hooyah Burgers
Where: 78 Albion Street, Leeds LS1 6AD
Hooyah Burgers, nestled on Albion Place, serves up an American-style feast with a concise yet expertly curated menu of beef, chicken, and vegan burgers. With seven signature creations on offer, each packed with authentic American flavours, there’s something for every palate.
Keep it classic with the Louisville: two smashed 29-day aged beef patties crafted from a blend of three cuts for maximum flavour, topped with American cheese, pickles, and fresh salad. For a taste of the South, try the Tenn-I-Ssee, a hearty combination of two beef patties and slow-roasted BBQ pulled pork.
Chicken lovers can’t go wrong with the Nashville, featuring a crispy buttermilk chicken breast. Enjoy it plain or add a fiery kick with Hooyah’s signature Nashville hot sauce.
Non-meat eaters are equally spoilt for choice. The Area 51, made with a Beyond Meat patty, and the Miami Chick’n, a wheat protein chicken-style burger, are both brimming with bold flavours.
If the signature options don’t tempt you, why not build your own meaty masterpiece or sample one of the limited-edition chef specials?
Pair your burger with a selection of irresistible sides, from loaded fries and buttermilk tenders to crispy onion rings and creamy slaw.
Almost Famous
Where: Alexander Court, Great George Steet, Leeds LS1 3AL
Almost Famous is a burger brand with attitude and has venues in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. The unassuming exterior of the Leeds venue on Great George Street hides a fun and vibrant burger restaurant boasting quirky and colourful decor, with countless nods to USA popular culture.
Beef takes centre stage at this burger place in Leeds, with eight varieties of 100% ground beef burgers on the menu, varying in complexity from the simple Famous double cheeseburger to the fully loaded ‘Blame It On The Whiskey’. It’s all about the chin drip at Almost Famous so expect super juicy patties and lashings of sauce! A must-try at Almost Famous is the Phoenix – a double cheeseburger piled with bacon, shoestring onions, Frazzles, red chillies, BBQ sauce, bacon bacon mayo and bacon ketchup!
Buttermilk fried chicken is also on the menu! Crispy on the outside and succulent in the centre, the wings, nuggets and boneless tenders are perfect for dipping into flavoursome sauces.
Fear not if you’re a non-meat eater as a good number of the dishes on the Almost Famous menu can be made vegan or veggie if requested.
The side dishes at Almost Famous are pretty epic too! If simplicity is your king then opt for the Winning Fries – a combo of skin-on and sweet potato fries. Feeling saucy? There are loaded fries, waffle fries and tater tots available too!
Meat:Stack
Where: 3 Bishopgate Street, Leeds LS1 5DY
Conveniently located by Leeds Railway Station, the Meat:Stack brand started life at Newcastle Quayside Sunday Market in 2016 but now has a popular restaurant in its home city and one in our beloved Leeds.
A bespoke selection of cuts is sourced from traditional and rare breed cows before being ground down, smashed into patties and steamed to perfection on a fiery hot grill.
It’s a fast-food-style burger place so there shouldn’t be any lengthy waits to sink your teeth into their patties of meaty goodness! Don’t expect an extensive menu of overly complicated creations at Meat:Stack. There are just four permanent cheeseburgers on the menu – West Coast Classic, Quarter Pounder, New Mexico and our choice, the Yellowstone, which features baconnaise, hash brown, french onions and BBQ sauce.
In addition to these, Meat:Stack has a selection of semi-permanent options that rotate throughout the year to give each of their special creations time to shine. These always include elevated versions of their classic beef burgers plus, a couple of chicken and veggie options.
Fries and tenders are available as sides and we recommend ordering one of their milkshakes which come in delicious flavours like Dulce de Leche, Biscoff and Pistachio.
MEATliquor
Where: 1 Bank Street, Leeds LS1 6HX
Another burger place just a stone’s throw from Leeds station is the fantastic MEATliquor which serves up the naughtiest menu of juicy burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries, fried chicken, milkshakes, cocktails, craft beers and more!
Compared to some, the burger options are relatively simple. Just a few quality ingredients complement the tasty beef sourced from English cattle. Spice lovers are in for a treat with fiery options like the Green Chilli Cheese which comprises two patties, American cheese, spicy green chilli butter and pickled jalapenos. Would you prefer a hot dog to a burger? Order the Chilli Dog – a meaty beef hot dog loaded with beef chilli, cheddar cheese, onions, jalapenos and mustard. Yum!
There are some excellent vegan options on the menu, too, such as meat-free chicken nuggets, veggie chilli, and the delicious-sounding Burgaloo, which features Roast Potato and mushroom, lime pickle, soy yoghurt, poppadom, pickled chillis, and pink onions.
Slap & Pickle
Where: 18 New Station Street, Leeds LS1 5DL
If it’s a brilliant beer and burger combo you’re seeking, you can’t go wrong with a visit to The Brewery Tap. Slap & Pickle are in charge of the kitchen here, as they are at numerous pubs and bars throughout the UK, including Head of Steam in nearby Headingley.
Smash burgers are the name of the game at Slap & Pickle. Made from 40-day dry-aged Swaledale beef and served as doubles, they’re available with cheese, smoked bacon, BBQ sauce, onion rings or all the above. Slap & Pickle lovers who want to consume a larger portion of meat can pay a little extra to add as many extra patties as they can handle.
There are three types of chicken burgers on the menu, as well as flavour-packed buffalo wings and tenders. All the meals are served with naked fries as standard but you can upgrade to have them fully loaded. The loaded fries here are particularly good with indulgent options like Hoisin Duck Fries, Chicken Kiev Fries and the super popular Big Mick Fries – crispy fries loaded with chopped beef patties, cheese sauce, shredded lettuce, pickles and burger sauce.
Fat Annie’s
Where: Leeds Kirkgate Market, 28-34 George Street, Leeds LS2 7HY
