A premium craft distillery in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales is looking for a new owner. The Wensleydale Spirit Co, founded in 2018 by Leyburn hotelier Chris Taplin, is being sold through specialist business property advisers Christie & Co.
Housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century engine and cargo shed on the historic Wensleydale Railway platform, the distillery produces a range of high-quality spirits, including London dry gins, flavoured vodkas, and spiced rum. Its Signature Gin even won a silver medal at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco.
Visitors to the distillery can enjoy immersive experiences such as tasting events and the popular “Gin Train Experience”, which runs in partnership with the Wensleydale Railway. A new bar added in 2023 has further enhanced the welcoming atmosphere, allowing guests to sample the full range of spirits on site.
After seven successful years, Chris Taplin is retiring. “Building this business from scratch and sharing our spirits with so many people has been an incredible journey,” he said. “There’s huge potential for growth, and I’m excited to see what the next owner can achieve.”

The Wensleydale Spirit Co is being sold with a leasehold asking price of £65,000 plus stock, fixtures, and fittings.
