East Yorkshire’s very own Luke’s Bakery has scored massive national recognition, bagging two medals in the prestigious 2026 Britain’s Best Loaf Competition.
Based in Brough, the independent bakery entered the annual competition, run by British Baker magazine, for the very first time this year. Facing a record number of entries from across the country, Luke’s blew the judges away during the blind tastings, taking home a silver medal for its Malted Granary Sourdough and a bronze for its signature White Sourdough.

The big national wins are just the latest milestone for founder Luke Jenneson, who famously ditched a career in banking back in 2021 to perfect his slow-proved sourdough recipes. Five years on, the bakery is on an absolute roll, already boasting a collection of Great Taste and Deliciously Yorkshire awards, alongside winning the ‘Local Producer’ title at the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards at the end of last year.

Luke Jenneson, Founder and Director of Luke’s Bakery, said:
“When I left a career in banking in 2021 to develop my signature sourdough recipes, I could never have imagined that five years later we’d be an award-winning business. Our mission was always to bake the best bread in the North, so to now be named among ‘Britain’s Best Loaves’ is a dream come true!”
Amy North, Editor of British Baker Magazine, added:
“Securing two medals at Britain’s Best Loaf is a huge achievement, particularly as all loaves in the competition are judged blind… The quality of these loaves really is testament to the hard work of Luke and the team at Luke’s Bakery.”
